1. After Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh becomes India’s second open defecation Free State: The newly acquired status will entitle Himachal Pradesh to receive World Bank funding under Rs 9,000 crore projects to sustain sanitation campaign

2. Odisha Govt. comes up with a new scheme to provide legal assistance to deprived sectionsThe Odisha government has come up with a new scheme to provide legal assistance to the deprived sections of the society at the grassroots level in all its 6,812 gram panchayats across the state.

 

3. India ranks poorly in Commonwealth youth indexIndia has ranked very poorly at 133 in a new Global Youth Development Index compiled by theCommonwealth Secretariat on the countries' prospects for young people in employment, education, health, civic and political spheres.

 

4. IIID to conduct 'Design Yatra' in Kozhikode:India's first 'Design Yatra' will be conducted in Kerala's Kozhikode city between October 29-31, during which competitions, heritage walk, talks and interaction with students will be conducted. Launched by Institute of Indian Interior Designer in February this year, the yatrais aimed at spreading awareness and taking designs to the masses and is scheduled to travel to 29 Indian cities.

1. National Ayurveda Day being observedThe National Ayurveda Day is being observed on 28-10-2016. The Ministry of AYUSH is organizing a day-long national seminar on Prevention and Control of Diabetes through Ayurveda in New Delhi. The Ministry will launch Mission Madhumeha through Ayurveda on this occasion. 

2. Union Cabinet approves the establishment of National Academic DepositoryThe Union Cabinet on 27 October 2016 gave its green signal for establishment and operationalization of a National Academic Depository (NAD).

1. Antarctica’s Ross Sea declared world’s largest marine reserveDelegates from 24 countries and the European Union have agreed that the Ross Sea in Antarctica will become the world's largest marine protected area (MPA).

2Two Yazidi women, Nadia Murad Basee and Lamiya Aji Bashar, who escaped sexual enslavement by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Iraq, have won Europe's top human rights award, the Sakharov prize.

3Japan's Prince Mikasa, world's oldest royal, dies at 100: Japanese Prince Mikasa, uncle of Emperor Akihito, died at the age of 100 on Thursday, 27 October. He was the oldest imperial family member in the world.

1. Justice Reddy committee on One Rank One Pension submits report: The one-man judicial committee on One Rank One Pension submitted its report to the Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar.The Central Government had appointed the committee under the Chairmanship of Justice L Narasimha Reddy retired Chief Justice of Patna High Court.

 

2. Govt notifies revised DTAA with South KoreaIndia and South Korea on 26 October 2016 signed a revised Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

 

3. Sunil Bharti Mittal elected as GSMA ChairmanBharti Enterprises Founder and Chairman Sunil Mittal has been elected as GSMA (Global System Mobile Association) Chairman for a two-year period from January 2017 through December 2018.

4. Dr. Ajay M. Gondane appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Australia: Dr. Ajay M. Gondane has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Australia. Currently he is working as the Additional Secretary (Political) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). 

 

5. Karnal Singh appointed as chief of Enforcement Directorate: Senior IPS officer Karnal Singh on 25-10-2016 was appointed the chief of Enforcement Directorate(ED), the agency entrusted with probing money laundering cases.

1. Ericsson appoints Borje Ekholm as new president, CEOSwedish telecom gear maker Ericsson has appointed Borje Ekholm as President and CEO. Ekholmjoins Ericsson from his current position as CEO of Patricia Industries, a division within Investor.

1. MMTC ties up with major banks to retail gold coins: Public sector major MMTC (Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India) has joined hands with HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Andhra Bank to retail gold coins with a new buyback option. 

2. Salim Gangadharan to replace Amitabha Guha as non-executive chairman in South Indian Bank:Former Reserve Bank of India chief general manager Salim Gangadharan is appointed as the next non-executive chairman of South Indian Bank. Gangadharanwill replace Amitabha Guha will resign on November 1, 2016.

3. Legendary Kashmiri singer Raj Begum diesCelebrated Kashmiri singer Raj Begum passed away on 26 October 2016 in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. Begum was one of the most recognized female singers in the Kashmir Valley. She was 89. She was also awarded with Padma Shri in 2002.

1. India, China hold first joint army exercise in Jammu and KashmirAs part of the ongoing initiative to enhance interaction and cooperation between India and China, under the provisions of Border Defense Cooperation Agreement, 2013, the Indian and Chinese armies held the second joint exercise "Sino-India Cooperation 2016".

2. Government Funds Ro Pax Ferry in Gulf of Cambay under Sagarmala ProgrammeUnion Ministry of Shipping sanctioned the Capital Dredging Project of Ro Pax Ferry Services between Gogha & Dahej in Gulf of Cambay in Gujarat. Ministry released Rs 58.50 Crore as first instalment of grantin– aid to Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB).

3. Finance Ministry announces fresh tranche of gold bondsThe Finance Ministry announced the sixth tranche of sovereign gold bonds. The duration of the bond will be for a period of eight years with exit option from the fifth year to be exercised on the interest payment dates.

1. India, Algeria mull fertilizer Joint Venture: India’s plan for a joint venture arrangement with Algeria for a multi-billion dollar fertilizer plant located in the North African country seemed to have been initiated on following a meeting between Algerian Minister for Industry and Mining and the Indian Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh L. Mandavia.

2. World Bank pledges $2b aid to Bangladesh to tackle climate changeThe World Bank has pledged 2 billion US dollars aid to Bangladesh to tackle climate change. The Bank's president Jim Yong Kim said that Bangladesh is extremely vulnerable to climate change accounting for almost 70% of all storm surges in the world.

1. Ashok Leyland launches first India-made electric busHinduja Group flagship Ashok Leyland today launched - Circuit - the first “Made in India” electric bus.

 

2. Cipla signs deals to set up first biosimilars units in South AfricaIndian pharmaceutical major Cipla has signed a memorandum of agreement for South Africa’s first biosimilars manufacturing facility to be set up at a cost of nearly USD 91 million. The agreement with KwaZulu-Natal Dube Trade Port Special Economic Zone for Cipla BIOTEC’s new facility was concluded on the margins of BRICS Summit in Goa.

2. China launches its longest manned space missionChina today launched the two-man Shenzhou 11 space mission, which is its longest-ever manned space mission. The two astronauts will spend about a month in China's recently-launched experimental space lab, Tiangong 2. 1. Market capitalization: Infosys loses fifth spot to ONGCData from BSE showed that Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd (ONGC) beat India’s second largest software exporter Infosys Ltd to become the fifth most valuable company in India by market capitalization. 

2. India-Russia sign agreement to produce Ka-226T helicopters jointlyOn the birthday of India's Missilemen A. P. J. Abdul Kalam , India and Russia formally inked the agreement for five S-400 Triumph air defence systems and four stealth frigates and a joint venture to manufacture Kamov-226T helicopters in India.

3. Union Government has launched Mining Surveillance SystemThe mines ministry on 15th octcame out with mining surveillance system (MSS), a pan-India surveillance network using latest satellite technology, to check illegal mining.

1. Finland is the safest country in the world: WEFA recent report carried out by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on ‘Safety and Security,’ has revealed that the Finland is the safest place in the world with Qatar and UAE ranked second and third respectively.

1. In the First, Bank deposits cross Rs 100 lakh crore: According to the data released by the RBI ,India’ banking system reported total deposits of Rs 100 lakh crore for the first time ever in September month of this year.

4. Usian Bolt to retire after the 2017 World Championships: Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt has confirmed that he is going to retire after the 2017 World Championships in London, and also informed that the Racers Grand Prix later this year will be his last race on Jamaican soil.
